The Sabbath: God’s Sacred Gift of Rest for the Soul

The Sabbath is one of the most beautiful gifts God has given to His people. It is not merely a commandment it is an act of love. A pause in time that God Himself established, knowing exactly what our souls would need.

“And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.”
— Genesis 2:2 (KJV)

I am thankful for the Sabbath because it is a day God gave us like a small gift. A sacred space in time. A day He knew our souls would need.

A Day to Lay Down Burdens and Business

The Sabbath is a day to put down business, burdens, and daily commitments to simply rest and praise God. It is a day to breathe again.

“Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work:
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work.”

— Exodus 20:9–10 (KJV)

I don’t miss having to do anything on that day. The stillness has become something I treasure deeply. The Sabbath reminds us that God is our provider not our constant labor.

When the Sabbath Was Foreign to Me

At first, keeping the Sabbath felt foreign to me. I remember reading it in my Bible and wanting to keep it to experience it. That desire led me to study the Scriptures and seek understanding.

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.”
— Exodus 20:8 (KJV)

I wanted to know what it meant to truly honor the Sabbath in spirit and truth.

God Became My Teacher

I truly had no help. I didn’t even know how to properly ask. It felt like a secret, sacred thing. I brought my children into the Jewish community to understand the Sabbath better. On Fridays, people rushed to finish their work, close businesses early, and prepare before sunset.

It was unfamiliar to me. I didn’t know what to do but my God taught me.

“I am the LORD thy God which sanctify thee.”
— Exodus 31:13 (KJV)

God showed me that the Sabbath is not about perfection it is about intention.

Not a Burden, But a Blessing

The Sabbath is not a day of fear or heavy rules. Jesus reminded us that it is meant to bless us.

“The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath.”
— Mark 2:27 (KJV)

It is a day to give your soul rest, peace, and quiet reverence before God.

“If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath… then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD.”
— Isaiah 58:13–14 (KJV)

A Sacred Day I Now Enjoy

What once felt foreign has become sacred. What once felt confusing has become comforting. The Sabbath is now a day I enjoy and look forward to.

“It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever.”
— Exodus 31:17 (KJV)

God knew our souls would grow weary. In His mercy, He gave us the Sabbath.

Final Reflection

The Sabbath is not about doing everything right it is about resting in the One who is always right.

“There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.”
— Hebrews 4:9 (KJV)

“Just as the virgins were judged by their preparation, read my blog on “keeping your lamps lit” https://queensugarhoneyicetea.com/the-parable-of-the-ten-virgins-explained-kjv-keeping-your-lamp-lit-and-being-ready/ so are we shaped by how we honor the holy time God gives us.”
